Whether it’s voter registration, election updates, or key deadlines, our Take Action Center provides the tools and resources to ensure that Black communities can use their voices to shape the policies that affect our lives.
What Are Midterm Elections?
Midterm elections happen every 2 years.
They take place in the years when the president is not on the ballot, but leaders who make decisions about our everyday lives are.
In midterm elections, we vote for:

All U.S. House members (who write and pass federal laws and budgets)

Some U.S. Senators (who confirm judges and write and pass federal laws and budgets)

Some Governors & state lawmakers (who control budgets, schools, Medicaid, and voting laws)

Local offices & ballot measures (what directly affects your community)

Midterms are not “off-year” elections. They are power-deciding elections. When Black voters vote, Black communities win.
MIDTERM VOTER INFORMATION
GEORGIA
The 2026 election is a turning point for Georgia. It will determine whether power remains concentrated in the hands of the legislature or whether voters reclaim a government that listens to the people.
Black voters will decide this outcome. By flipping just a few key districts, electing fair-minded judges, and showing up in record numbers, Georgia can build a government that protects voting rights, invests in communities, and ensures justice for everyone.
WHAT IS A RUNOFF ELECTION?
Runoff elections happen when no candidate receives more than 50% plus 1 of the votes in the election. Runoffs give voters another chance to decide who will best represent their community and ensure the winner has broader voter support.
KEY GA ELECTION DATES
Special Runoff Election for House District 177 – June 9, 2026
Georgia voters will participate in a 2026 runoff election on June 9 to determine who will represent the people of House District 177 for the remainder of this current term, set to expire at the end of this year.
The candidates running in the runoff election are Alvin Payton, Jr., and Eric Howard. Georgia’s Primary Runoff Election will take place on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

Early Voting: June 8-12, 2026
Voters in participating districts will return to the polls to decide several key races at the federal, state, and local levels.
General Election
Early Voting: October 13 – October 30, 2026
Last Day to Vote by Mail: October 23, 2026
Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026

The 2026 election is an important moment for Louisiana. The decisions voters make will shape the future of our communities, our schools, our economy, and our democracy. Every vote matters, and every voice deserves to be heard.
Black voters have the power to influence the direction of our state by participating in elections at every level. By showing up at the polls, voters can help elect leaders who are responsive to their communities, invest in opportunity, and work to ensure that all Louisianans have a fair chance to succeed.
What is a Runoff Election?
Runoff elections happen when no candidate receives more than 50% plus 1 of the votes in the election. Runoffs give voters another chance to decide who will best represent their community and ensure the winner has broader voter support. Black voters will decide several key runoff races, including:
- Republican U.S. Senate Primary Runoff
- Democratic U.S. Senate Primary Runoff
- Additional local and municipal runoff races in some parishes
KEY LA ELECTION DATES
Louisiana voters will return to the polls for the 2026 Runoff Election on Saturday, June 27.
- Early Voting — June 12-20, 2026
- Election Day — June 27, 2026
Polls will be open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

CALIFORNIA
The 2026 election is an important moment for California voters.
The decisions made at the ballot box will shape the future of our communities, schools, economy, and democracy. Black voters have the power to influence these outcomes by making their voices heard and participating in every election. By turning out to vote, Californians can help elect leaders who are responsive to their communities, protect fundamental rights, invest in local neighborhoods, and work toward a more equitable future for all.
KEY CA ELECTION DATES
- Primary Election Day is June 2, 2026. Polls open from 7 am – 8pm.
NORTH CAROLINA
The 2026 election will decide whether the people or the politicians hold the power in North Carolina. Over the past 15 years, the General Assembly has worked to weaken the Governor, silence voters, and centralize control in its own hands. By voting in 2026, Black North Carolinians have the chance to change that story. Every vote will help determine whether we build a state where power is shared, voices are heard, and the future belongs to the people and not the politicians in Raleigh.
KEY NC ELECTION DATES
General Election Day: November 3, 2026 (polls are open from 6:30 am – 7:30 pm). North Carolina early voting dates will be posted after the Primary Election.*

Endorse The Black Economic Agenda
The Black Economic Agenda is a series of policy solutions for each area where we see the most pressing needs, based on what Black Census respondents shared, and where there is potential for immediate impact on people’s lives. For this agenda we focus on state solutions that governors and legislatures can use to help improve the conditions for Black people in their states.
Support Housing Justice in Valdosta
Rising rents are a problem across Georgia, and Valdosta is no exception. Black to the Future Action Fund is teaming up with Valdosta community leaders and elected officials to demand housing justice now and calling for concrete policy changes that expand access to affordable housing.
