In 2023, Black Futures Lab launched our work to build Black political power in South Georgia. Ahead of a critical election, we planted roots in Lowndes County to make sure Black voters in the city of Valdosta had the information they needed to make their voices heard. Since then, we have expanded our program to also reach Black voters in Lanier and Brooks counties.
You may be asking, ‘Why South Georgia?’ The region is home to several communities that are more than fifty percent Black, but in many cases these communities are not having their needs met. The south got something to say – and we’re doing everything to make sure they’re heard.
Partnering with local leaders and organizations, we are working to ensure that our communities do not get left behind and are able to flex their power year-round!
